Whistleblowing Management represents the manner in which companies identify and resolve conflicts of interest and other unethical business conducts.

What is a Conflict of Interests

A situation in which a person has multiple competing interests or loyalties which may significantly affect their ability to make impartial decisions.

A great example would be if an individual’s loyalty toward their employer versus their family business. Both expect the individual to have their best interest in mind, which is a very complicated task. Therein lies the essence of the conflict of interests.

A conflict of interests does not automatically lead to acts of corruption or unethical decision making. Thus, such a situation can be discovered, reported and regulated before the appearance of an act of corruption or a decision taken against the interests of an organization.

What is a Whistleblower

A whistleblower is a person which informs or exposes any activity which is considered unethical, illegal or incorrect and takes place withina public or private organization.

These misdemeanors can take on many forms: not respecting the company policy, internal rules or legislations, acts of abuse and harassment, hidden conflict of interest situations, going as far as threats to the public interest and even to the public safety, as well as fraud and corruption.

Those who choose to become whistleblowers can choose to only inform regarding to a specific situation, or even go the extra mile and offer evidence or additional details regarding the people involved, witnesses or the circumstances in which the reported facts took place, etc.

A whistleblower can choose to share knowledge of certain accusations internally, within the organization, or externally, by contracting a third party such as the mass-media, governmental or legal authorities, etc. The protection of these whistleblowers should represent a key concert of both public institutions and private companies

What is a Case Management

A ”Case” is a project, transaction, service or response with the goal of solving a problem, solicitation, proposal, development or other complex activities.

Also known as an Adaptive/Dynamic Case Manangement System, its main goal is to increase the organization’s performance by placing information about a case at the center, rather than considering the process as a primary parameter. The case information will be accessible during the entire period in which the case is opened and will eventually become the official source for any case-related activities

What is Non Retaliation

Retaliation is defined as any negative action taken against a current or ex-employee which chooses to report an ethical misdemeanor.

Non-retaliation represents the process of forbidding anyone to take any negative actions toward those reporting or seeking more information related to unethical business practices

All reports have to be sent in good faith. This does not mean that the individual has to be right, just that he must be firmly convinced that the information offered is based on facts.

The non-retaliation principle must be an integral part of any hotline reporting / warning system. This information has to be promoted and supported by the company management and must be integrated with internal policies in order to ensure maximum efficiency.

What is Self Disclosure

Self-disclosure represents the voluntary offering of important information which may significantly impact a company or public institution.
